Horrible wreck, happenings in and around Johnson City, an invasion?
Saturday, April 11, 1925: A century ago today, The Knoxville Journal reported news with a dateline from Johnson City and a date from April 10. Readers learned that “W. B. Croley and V. B. Cobble were released from the jail at Elizabethton this afternoon, after required bonds of $15,000 for each was made promptly at the courthouse for their appearance at the next term of the criminal court at Elizabethton, on the second Monday in June to answer a charge of manslaughter in three cases.
“After being served with process in civil suits aggregating $90,000 Croley and Cobble reached Johnson City later in the afternoon. Croley being ill and going to his home here, and Cobble preparing to return to his home in Knoxville.
“The three cases against the defendants include charges of murder in connection with the death of the three men who died in the wreck Tuesday night.
