Saturday, December 19, 1925: A century ago today, the Johnson City Chronicle reported that “Preliminary hearing in the case of the State vs. W. G. Whisnant, former cashier of the city water department, on a charge of embezzlement, has been set for nine o’clock this morning, before Magistrate J. C. Campbell, at his office on Tipton street (sic for Street). The case, set first for Wednesday afternoon, was postponed until Saturday morning.
