Wednesday, May 16, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, the Herald and Tribune reported several short news items. There were more short advertisements scattered among the news items than in most issues of the newspaper. Some of each appear below: “John M. Mitchell was in town Monday.”

“Shirts of all kinds cheap at A. C. Britton.”

“Fisk & Hickey has just received a car of corn.”

“If you want to save money buy what you wear from A. C. Britton.”

“We have some canned goods we want to sell cheap. Fink & Hickey.”

“Chas. Taylor was among old friends in this place a day or two last week.”
