Saturday, September 12, 1925: A century ago today, the Johnson City Chronicle alerted readers about happenings in Telford, a community in rural Washington County. Readers learned that “Miss Luvena Hopper after spending several weeks with her parents, Rev. and Mrs. S. A. Hopper, left on Thursday on the No. 1 for Sevierville, where she will attend school this winter at Sevierville Institute.”

“Mr. Robert Hartman, of South Carolina, is visiting home folks this week.

“Mrs. Clifton Clark has as her guests last week end (sic for weekend) Mr. and Mrs. Bernie Byrd and family of Illinois.”

“Mrs. Robert Courtney and little son, of Kingsport, has recently been the guest of her mother, Mrs. Huffman.”
