Saturday, January 27, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, the Morristown Republican reported that “Brownlow is now trying to stuff the people of Johnson City with the idea that he will locate a branch of the Home for Disabled Volunteers at Johnson City, to cost $250,000. Johnson City republicans (sic for Republicans) will not fail to see that Brownlow is trying to pull the wool over their eyes in order to catch votes. There is no necessity for a branch Home. The one the government now owns is entirely too large.”
