Saturday, March 3, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, The Knoxville Sentinel reported news with a dateline from Johnson City. Readers were informed that “’The Midnight Fire’ was last night performed by local talent under the management of Bertrand Willard, at Jobe’s opera (sic for Opera) house (sic for House). It was for the benefit of the fire department of this city, and was a grand success. The audience was agreeably surprised at the efficient acting of the young people.
“The participants were: Haskel H. Dyer, Eugene Bertram, Hugh Boring, Bassett Willard, Yulee Dyer, Walter Cargile, Walter McLaughlin, Walter Hunter, Earl Jackson, Graham Wilbourne, Miss Daisy Pierce, Miss LLucy (sic for Luc) Ray, Miss Jennie Lusk, Mrs. L. S. Jones, Charles Taylor.
“Miss Dora Cargille, the pianist, furnished the music.
“Much could be said in praise of each of the parts presented.”
