Saturday, January 6, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, The Knoxville Sentinel reported news with a dateline from Johnson City. Readers learned that “W. J. Burgess, has sold his stock of groceries on Main street (sic for Street) to W. I Boring.”

“Miss Mattie Bullock, who has been teaching on Buffalo, is reported quite ill.”

“P. H. Powder, of Morristown, is in the city on business.”
