Saturday, March 17, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, The Nashville Tennessean reported news with a dateline from Knoxville and a date from March 16. Readers learned that “A special from Johnson City, Tenn., says: The snow fall here yesterday last night, and this morning is the heaviest known in years. Telegraph and telephone wires are down, and heavy tracts of timber has been laid low on account of the snow’s weight. Up to 10 o’clock last night nine inches of snow had fallen here. The damage to timber in this section will aggregate several thousand dollars. Snow is still falling.”
