Tuesday, March 30, 1926: A century ago today, the Johnson City Chronicle reported that “Suggestions and appals (sic for appeals) for protection of wild flowers and birds – particularly the gorgeous spring blooms in this section at this season of the year, have become crystalized into action by women of the country, and the matter is being taken up by the Wild Flower Preservation Society, formed in Washington, D. C., with branches in all parts of the country.
