Tuesday, October 27, 1925: A century ago today, readers of the Johnson City Chronicle learned that “Trial of four civil cases filed against W. B. Croley, V. R. Cobble and Frank Crumley, aggregating $90,000, is set for Tuesday of this week, at the regular term of circuit beginning Monday morning, with Judge D. A. Vines presiding.

“These civil cases grow out of the same automobile wreck which was the basis of the criminal suit tried last week, in which Croley was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter while Cobble and Crumley shown to have been passengers with him, were acquitted of the charge.

“The civil suits are three for $25,000 each, filed by the widows of Ned Range and Bate and Hampton McKinney, and a suit for $15,000 for personal injuries, filed by Nat McKinney, who was injured.
