Saturday, March 31, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, The Knoxville Sentinel reported sad news. The dateline was from Johnson City. Readers learned that “Thos. Turner, a respected citizen of this city who came here ten years ago from North Carolina, is dead. He had been afflicted with la grippe, for several weeks past, only being able to attend to his livery business a small portion of his time. He suffered a relapse this week, and after spending a day at his house, walked out from his room as if going to the stable, but instead he went out to Lake Watausee and walked into the water where his body was found yesterday evening.
