Saturday, April 13, 1901: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, The Knoxville Sentinel reported several short news items in a column entitled “Johnson City Social Notes”. Some of the news items have been mentioned in previous columns, but in a slightly different form. The dateline was Johnson City, and the date was April 12. Readers learned that “The ladies of the town gave a very excellent dinner at the opera house and cleared a neat sum for charitable purposes.”
