Visitors from England and much more
Saturday, December 22, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, The Journal and Tribune reported news with a dateline from Johnson City and a date of December 21. Readers learned that “One of the most brilliant masquerade balls ever seen in the city was given at the splendid residence of ex-Mayor W. J. Exum, on Watauga avenue (sic for Avenue), tonight. The entire 400 of the city were out in the richest and gayest costumes possible and one of the most delightful occasions in the history of Johnson City society was enjoyed.”
