Saturday, February 3, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, the Peninsula Enterprise reported news with a dateline from Johnson City and a date from January 29. Readers of that newspaper learned that “Ike T. Jobe, formerly a captain in the Sixth United States immunes, who is accused of fraudulently selling government transportation orders to ticket scalpers and the illegal use of government penalty envelopes, was captured near here yesterday by Postoffice (sic for Post Office) Inspector F. M. Betz, of Cincinnati. If Jobe fails to give $3,000 bonds he wil (sic for will) be placed in the Knoxville jail to await transfer to Columbus, O.”
