Saturday, May 5, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, the Knoxville Sentinel reported news with a dateline from Johnson City. Readers learned that “The Johnson City ice factory is about ready for the season, and will put out a full supply of ice for this city and other nearby points.”

“Thos. Linville has a contract to build three cottages on Walnut street (sic for Street) and is now preparing the material at his mills on obe (probably sic for Jobe) street (sic).”

“Hon. John Brown, of Rogersville, was in the city part of the day yesterday, and went down to Greeneville.”

Rogersville is located in Hawkins County and is about 37 miles from Johnson City. It lies west of Johnson City.
