Railroad news, King's Mountain, the weather and more
Saturday, January 13, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, The Chattanooga Daily Times reported two items of business news with a dateline from Johnson City and a date of January 12. Readers learned that “W. O. Dyer of the Virginia and Southwestern railroad (sic for Railroad) has begun a survey from Johnson City to Elizabethton. There are strong indications that when this survey is completed, the route located and estimates made, the ten-mile link will be built connecting the Virginia and Southwestern at Elizabethton with the Ohio River and Charleston of Johnson City. At Johnson City, the Virginia and Southwestern will use the Ohio River and Charleston to Chestoa from whence it is expected a branch line of about four miles will be built down the Nolachucky river (sic for River) to Embreeville in order for the Carter syndicate to reach the mines and furnace at the later point.
