Friday, May 11, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, The Morning News reported a news item with a dateline from Washington and a date of May 10. Readers learned that “The bill for the establishment of a branch soldiers’ home at Johnson City Tenn., and appropriating $250,000 for that purpose was today favorably reported to the Senate by Mr. Bate of Tennessee, from the Commission on Military Affairs.”
