Thursday, January 11, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, The Comet published several short news accounts of interest to local residents. Some of them were as follows: “George Mitchell has returned from Texas.”

“Q. U. Stout was up from Limestone last night.”

Limestone is a community in rural Washington County.

“Tom Kirkpatrick is down the road on a pleasure trip.”

“Mrs. P. H. Wofford and children have returned from Bristol visiting relatives.”

“Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Carr, of Asheville, N. C., have been in the city several days this week.”

“W. L. James, the popular druggist is slightly indisposed, having taken a tumble on our new sidewalks.”
