Thursday, May 17, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, The Comet reported several short news items of interest to local residents; a few advertisements were also included in the newspaper’s offerings. Some of each were as follows: “The Soldiers’ home (sic for Home) bill passed the Senate Wednesday night. Hon. W. P. Brownlow telegraphed this good news to W. G. Mathes this morning. He stated that Senators Bate and Turley did splendid work for the bill. The bill has yet to pass the house, but this will be done at Mr. Brownlow’s pleasure.”
