Thursday, September 28, 2024: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, The Comet reported the following:  “At a meeting of the Tri-County Fair Association Thursday afternoon it was decided to add several new features to the Fair. The principal one will be a Merchants’ Carnival for the first day. The merchants with characteristic enterprise readily agreed to prepare floats for the occasion, and already a procession fully a half mile long has been assured. Following the floats in the line of march will be a long line of private vehicles elaborately decorated. Prizes will be offered for the handsomest double and single turnouts. The line of march will be over the principal streets and to the Fair ground to which every one (sic) will be admitted free of charge.
