Thursday, August 9, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, The Comet provided readers with all kinds of short news items about folks, many of whom were well-known in the community. There were also several advertisements scattered amongst the news items. Some of each follow: “All kinds of hardware at The Bee Hive.”

The Bee Hive was a popular department and hardware store; the name can still be seen, etched in concrete, on East Market Street in Johnson City.

“Dr. E. E. Harder was down from Elizabethton Monday.”

“Hammar paint at The Bee Hive.”

“Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Williams are being entertained by a young daughter.”
