Lots of social news from Johnson City
Thursday, December 13, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, The Comet reported several short news items of interest to readers. “The Johnson City Foundry and Machine Works will probably operate a branch plant at Bristol. The Bristol Foundry & Machine Co. was recently destroyed by fire and that town is now without such an institution. G. W. Sitton, the manager of the local company, says he has the matter of a branch plant at Bristol under advisement and may put it in. He is one of the best machinists in the state and the Foundry & Machine Works has done better under his management than at any time in its history. If he decides to put in a branch at Bristol it will be up-to-date in every particular.”
“Thurman Hughes, the small boy upon whom an operation was performed two weeks ago at Knoxville hospital, removing a bullet from his left knee, has returned to his home near Johnson City. In locating the bullet the X-rays had to be used.”
