Thursday, March 8, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, The Comet reported news from Watauga; the news was dated February 26. Readers learned that “David Scott, son of John Scott, died here on the 15th inst. His remains were taken to Abingdon, Va., for burial. The young man was caught in a belt in the chair factory over a year ago and was badly injured, and has been a constant sufferer ever since until death relieved him.”

“Inst.” is an abbreviation meaning “In the same month.”
