Sunday, September 23, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, The Chattanooga Sunday Times reported several short news items pertaining to residents in or near Johnson City in a column entitled “Social News of Near-By Towns”. Some of the items with a dateline from Johnson City and a date from September 22 are as follows: “Mrs. H. H. McPherson of Jonesboro, is visiting for a few weeks with her father, Judge John P. Smith. Mr. McPherson has gone to Clarksville, where he will locate, and Mrs. McPherson will join him soon.”

Jonesboro was spelled that way in 1900.

Clarksville is located about 331 miles from Johnson City.
