Monday, May 4, 1925: A century ago today, the Johnson City Staff-News reported that “Semi-weekly dinner dances are to be held at the John Sevier Hotel beginning this week; dancing to be from 6 to 8:30 o’clock, on Tuesdays and Fridays, in reconnection with dinner served by the hotel. The dances are being conducted by the hotel management, in connection by the hotel mismanagement. In connection with Miss Bonnie Murray, whose dancing classes are to be begum simultaneously.

“All dinner guests, with dinner served at the usual rate, will be permitted to take part in the semi-weekly dances.”

Sunday, May 4, 1930: Ninety-five years ago today, the Johnson City Chronicle reported that “Attorney Robert R. Miller of Johnson City will deliver the literary address at the graduation exercises of the 1930 class of the Appalachian Hospital Training School of Nursing which will occur on the lawn of the hospital Monday evening, May 12, at 6:30 o’clock.
