A viaduct possibility, an argument about the cow, and Ground Hog Day
Monday, February 2, 1925: A century ago today, the Johnson City Staff-News reported that “Auto thieves on Sunday night or Saturday, made away with two tires from the Ford car dealership belonging to Robert Mahoney, which was in the garage at his home on East Unaka avenue (sic for Avenue). Not having used the car since Saturday, the robbery was discovered Monday morning. It was found that entry had been gained to the garage by breaking off the lock of the door, and the two tires were stripped from the wheels. A spare tire, locked on, was undisturbed. The car itself was locked at the steering wheel, with indicators that this precaution had saved the taking of the car.”
