Monday, August 31, 1925: A century ago today, The Washington Herald reported somber news. Readers learned from a dateline from Johnson City and a date of August 30 that “’Uncle Alf’ Taylor, former governor of Tennessee, is still in a serious condition at his home at Milligan, near here. The famous lecturer and political leader had been failing for some months and for several weeks past has been confined to his bed.
