Friday, June 1, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, The Mountaineer reported news with a dateline from Johnson City and a date from May 27. Readers learned that “A tree fell on Murray Overstreet today, fracturing one of his legs and otherwise injuring him. Some parties were digging up the tree near the city when Overstreet drove his team by it. He was warned of the danger, but not until it was too late to make his escape.”

The Mountaineer was a newspaper published in Elizabethton.
