Bits and pieces from Elizabethton, sadness about World War II, Preas will, and a wedding
Monday, October 27, 1924: One hundred years ago today, the Johnson City Staff-News reported that “Mrs. Harris Wofford and Mrs. S. R. Jennings were hostesses Saturday afternoon at the regular meeting of the County Club Bridge Club. Mrs. W. W. Miller was fortunate guest to capture the prize, a handsome box of stationary (sic), for holding the top score in the bridge contest. The hostesses served tempting cakes and ices, moulded (sic) in black cats, and pumpkins, suggestive of the Hallowe’en season.”
