Monday, September 28, 1925: A century ago today, the Johnson City Staff-News reported “An inaccurate rumor has been circulated here, and also in neighboring towns, that Mayor Ellison ‘vetoed’ the ordinance of the city council, proposing the change of Standard Time in Johnson City from Central to Eastern Time.
“Investigation of the rumor indicates that it was evidently started by some persons who read in a report of council meetings that the mayor had vetoed the ordinance to change the time of meeting of the board, and misinterpreted this report, or failed to read the account of the meeting in detail.
“Speaking of the reports, Mayor Ellison said today:
