Jail escapees, Mrs. Lee murdered her husband, SHHS wrestling and more
Monday, February 9, 1925: One hundred years ago today, the Johnson City Staff-News reported alarming news. Readers learned that “So far none of the seven prisoners are still at large after the wholesale delivery from the Jonesboro jail on Friday night have been apprehended. A telephone call from Kingsport on Sunday night reported the arrest of two men at that point; the information being that they had come in on a freight train, and that they had impersonated officers and demanded money from a person they attempted to arrest. The description, however, did not tally with any of the fugitives, and they have not been returned here.
