Friday, April 27, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, The Knoxville Sentinel reported news with a dateline from Johnson City. Readers learned that “Democrats here are discussing the question as to a candidate for congress (sic for Congress), and will be apt to settle down on a leader that can win by the time of the Congressional Convention. H. H. Gouchenour, George A. Smith, John H. Bowman and A. H. Shoun are favorably mentioned by their friends in this city.”

The Knoxville Sentinel is now published as the Knoxville News-Sentinel.

Saturday, April 27, 1930: Ninety-five years ago today, the Johnson City Chronicle reported that “Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Hickey celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Monday evening with a buffet supper at their home, 401 West Maple street (sic for Street).
