Thursday, January 5, 1888: In a column entitled “Merry Moments”, readers of The Comet smiled as they read that “’You can’t do that again,’ said the pig to a boy who cut off his tail.”
“Young ladies are painting pictures of frogs. They are so suggestive of leap year.”
“A lady defends herself for the size of her bustle by saying that she isn’t responsible for what goes on behind her back.”
Friday, January 5, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, The Knoxville Sentinel reported news with a dateline from Johnson City. It was reported that “At many places on the upper Holston, the ice is ten to twelve inches thick.
