A dam disaster, newspaper sold, first snow of the season and more
Friday, January 2, 1925: One hundred years ago today, The Atlanta Journal reported news with a dateline from Johnson City. Readers learned that “Hundreds of fish are being brought here in wagons and trucks and placed on sale at very low prices, as a result of the disaster at the Saltville dam (sic for Dam) Christmas eve (sic for Eve), which filled the Holston river (sic for River) with lime muck, killing the fish almost instantly. Several large fish are being sold, weighing from 60 to 75 pounds.”
