Friday, May 8, 1925: A century ago today, the Johnson City Chronicle reported that “Ab Hamilton, 22, was instantly killed at Douglas Shed, about 15 miles north of here, today by the accidental discharge of a shot-gun through his body while he was climbing over a fence with the gun. He was following a rabbit which had been in the garden of his home and as it ran out of the garden, he attempted pursuit. In crossing the garden fence, the gun was discharged, the shot entering his right side and passing through to the heart.

“The young man was a son of R. C. Hamilton, a well known farmer living at Douglas Shed. He is survived by his parents, one brother and one sister.”

Thursday, May 8, 1930: Ninety-five years ago today, in an over-the-masthead headline, the Johnson City Staff-News reported in big, bold, black type that “Population of Johnson City is Now 25,073.”
