Council of War, blood poisoning, and a new hotel
Monday, September 11, 1775: Two hundred and fifty years ago today, General Washington convened a Council of War to discuss the possibility of a direct attack upon Boston. Tuesday, September 11, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, the Knoxville Sentinel reported news with a dateline from Johnson City. Readers learned that “Capt. W. F. Miller died in this city after a brief illness. The immediate cause of this death was blood poison, resulting from a small cut or scratch on his finger, made by a rose bush, to which he paid no attention until it was too late.
