Tuesday, January 30, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, news about Capt. Ike T. Jobe continued in the news. Since there was no dateline, we know the story originated in Knoxville. According to The Knoxville Sentinel, “Capt. Ike T. Jobe, who was arrested Sunday morning by Postoffice (sic for Post Office) Inspector Betz, of Cincinnati, and Deputy Marshal Charles McCall, is still in this city. Unless he gives bond this afternoon, he will be taken to Columbus, Ohio, tomorrow.
“The story of Ike T. Jobe’s arrest, his sensational escape from the Columbus jail, and his recapture at the home of his brother-in-law, are well known to the readers of The Sentinel.
