Tuesday, July 17, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, the Knoxville Sentinel reported news with a dateline from Johnson City. Readers were informed that “Bob Clark, and a man by the name of McInturf became involved in a quarrel over the whipping of Clark’s boy by a member of McInturf’s family. In the fight resulting Clark was cut on the head and one shoulder with an axe. He, in turn, shot McInturf through the arm, inflicting a painful wound. Clark bled freely, but his condition is not considered serious as yet.”
