Friday, September 26, 1924: A century ago today, the Johnson City Staff reported “President James A. Summers of the Ashland – Natural Tunnel – Asheville Highway Association, left this morning to attend a meeting at Big Store Gap of the executive committee of the Association. The meeting will be held this evening, and it is expected that a number of plans which have been under consideration since the organization meeting in Kingsport in August will be definitely determined upon.
