Friday, August 7, 1925: A century ago today, the Johnson City Staff-News reported that “Word received here announces the tragic death of David H. Howard, well known lawyer and financier of Lynchburg, who is well known in Johnson City and vicinity. Mr. Howard, who was 60 years of age, had been in failing health for some time, and was preparing to leave for Battle Creek, Michigan, for treatment. About one o’clock in the afternoon, a shot was heart in the bath room (sic for bathroom) of his home in Lynchburg, and he was found dead wiht (sic for with) a bullet in his bfain (sic for brain), inflicted either by accident or design, due to ill health.
