Aaron Burr's birth, Pouder injured, follow-up to the stolen sedan and more
Thursday, February 6, 1756: Two hundred and seventy years ago today, Aaron Burr was born. He was the third vice president of the United States. “While vice president, Burr challenged political enemy Alexander Hamilton to a duel and mortally wounded him July 11, 1804, at Weehawken, New Jersey. Indicted for the challenge and for murder, he returned to Washington to complete his term of office (during which he presided over the impeachment trial of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Chase). In 1807 Burr was arrested, tried for treason (in an alleged scheme to invade Mexico and set up a new nation in the West) and acquitted. Born at Newark, New Jersey, he died at Staten Island, New York on September 14, 1836.” (Source: Chase’s 2026 Calendar of Events.)
