Tuesday, November 6, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, The Knoxville Sentinel reported news with a dateline from Johnson City and a date of November 5. Readers learned that “The registration books were opened in the four wards of the city today and will be continued so until Wednesday night. The purpose of this registration is to prepare for the city election to be held the last Wednesday in this month at which time there will be elected a mayor and also one alderman from each ward, to serve for the term of two years. It is thought that but few voters will be registered as most have heretofore been enrolled.”
