Sunday, October 1, 1899: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, the Chattanooga Sunday Times reported news with a dateline from Greeneville, and a date of September 30. Readers learned that “Miss Josephine Tucker was married Tuesday morning, Sept. 26, to Capt. W. J. Hannah, of Waynesville, N. C., Dr. W. H. Lester officiating. The marriage took place at the residence of Mrs. I. O. Harrell, on West Main street (sic), in the presence of a few immediate friends and relatives. Capt. and Mrs. Tucker left on the noon train for their new home at Waynesville.”
