Sunday, May 6, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, The Chattanooga Sunday Times reported several interesting, but short, news items, all with a dateline from Johnson City and a date of May 5. Readers learned that “Mrs. C. H. Jennings and children left Tuesday morning for Newport, where they will visit for two weeks before going on to Chicago to join Mr. Jennings, who holds a government position in that city.”

Newport is a town located approximately 58 miles from Johnson City. It is southwest of Johnson City.

“W. F. Jones left Wednesday morning for North Carolina.”

“J. A. Cargille is spending the week in Rogersville.”
