Sunday, February 25, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, The Chattanooga Sunday Times reported news with a date from February 24 and a dateline from Johnson City. Readers learned that “Gen. John T. Wilder is always scheming and seeing ways of making money that nobody else sees.
“In the vicinity of Roane (sic for Roan) mountain (sic for Mountain), he has acres and acres of sugar maples on property which he owns. Arrangements have just been completed for tapping three or four hundred of these trees this season and making maple sugar.
