Scaffolding accident, a child's death, airplane crash
Wednesday, March 25, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, the Johnson City Chronicle noted that “S. H. Laws was injured Monday when a scaffold on which he was working gave way and let him fall. Mr. Laws was employed by the firm of Burleson and Laws and was at work on a building on Highland avenue (sic for Avenue) when the accident occurred and fell a distance of about twenty feet. He was rushed immediately to the Appalachian hospital (sic for Hospital) where examination revealed no broken bones. He was considerably bruised and shaken up, however, and suffered a cut on the leg which was probably caused by a ruler he was carrying at the time.”
