Saturday, December 9, 1775: Two hundred and fifty years ago today, according to Facebook, “The Battle of Great Bridge occurred near Norfolk, Virginia. Prior to this engagement, Virginia’s Royal Governor, John Murray, the Earl of Dunmore, ordered the Royal Marines to seize the gunpowder stores of Williamsburg. News of Dunmore’s decision spread, prompting Patriot militia companies from surrounding counties to move towards the area.
