Beginning with a question, April Fool's Day in 1925, a death and more
Recently a friend asked if I’d ever heard about a house that was likely on North Roan Street, and constructed of brick, being lost in a card game, sometime between 1920 and 1960. I have not. If you have, please email me at rebeccahorvathwrites@yahoo.com. So many thanks in advance!
Thursday, April 2, 1925: A century ago today, the Johnson City Staff-News reported that “April Fool’s Day came and passed with the usual string of jokes in its wake, but no serious damage reported. Probably the telephone was the most commonly used instrumentality in the hands of the perpetrators; fake calls and engagements which were never kept being of common occurrence.
“While police escaped answering any troublesome calls to nowhere in particular, several calls to the police department, inquiring what was wanted, revealing that some friend had advised the caller to ring that number.
