Sunday, May 13, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, the Chattanooga Sunday Times reported news with a dateline from Johnson City and a date from May 12. Readers learned that “Mrs. S. H. Pouder returned Wednesday from a trip to her father, who is very ill at May Day.”

May Day is a community located in rural Washington County.

“Mrs. C. L. Taggert is visiting in Chattanooga this week. She will go from there to Kansas, where she will visit two of her brothers for a few months.”

“Hon. J. T. Browning went to Washington college (sic for College) Wednesday afternoon, where that evening, he delivered the general address before the Alumnae Association.”
