Sunday, June 24, 1900: One hundred and twenty-five years ago today, The Chattanooga Sunday Times reported several short society news items, all with a dateline from Johnson City. The date was June 23. Some of the items of interest include the following: “The ladies of the public library have arranged for a most excellent musical programme to be conducted at Jobe’s opera (sic for Opera) house (sic for House) on Monday evening, July 2. The entertainment will be given on behalf of the library. Local talent will be assisted by Arthur Earnest, baritone, of the Bostonian Opera company (sic for Company), and William H. Conley, Washington’s famous dialect comedian. Miss Daisy Panhorst, Miss Louise Deaderick, and Mrs. R. F. Wells, of Jonesboro, will also assist.
